‘UNION BUSTING IS A CRIME, PRADA DO IT ALL THE TIME!’

So I’ve just been to the Prada Store Protest, where Labour Behind the Label are campaigning for workers rights in Turkish factories.

My problem isn’t necessarily with their message… but the way that they have chosen to go about communicating with a global brand.

It’s 10am on a Saturday and they have about seven protestors outside the store…
- with cardboard & felt-tip made signs, screaming slogans at the few passers by.

How are 7 people, outside one shop, going to make any difference to the Prada Empire?

And they’ve got a little girl there… which is really ironic, because eh, hello… your protesting about workers rights and children working in factories and you’ve got a seven-year-old standing outside the store with lipstick on trying to make a point.

After I had spoken to some of the campaigners, I went inside the store – and the staff had no idea what the protest was about. You couldn’t even hear them screaming, right outside! So what impact is that having on the consumer shopping experience?

And they have no press coverage either. It just seemed to be very, very poorly organised!

And the other point is that it’s a Prada Store, not the Head-Quarters, and the people there have no influence over what the brand does or does not do, or where they get their products from.

They just haven’t thought out this message at all, or how it’s going to get to the consumers, how its going to make any impact on the brand, how it’s going to achieve any of the goals that they have set out to achieve.

And I just think it’s a really unprofessional way to try and speak to a global brand.
