CANDID COMMUNICATION

Discussing eight varied topics, covering a selection of contextual fashion issues, Candid Communication uses audio and moving image to record and express her views.

The use of a ‘venti’ Starbucks cup allows Candid Communication to appeal to a large audience whilst voicing her thoughts and opinions on location. Using such an over indulgent item not only juxtaposes the issues being discussed but also reflects how the industry can be misleading. It was also selected to create a sense of irony as Starbucks are considered to be one of the most unethical companies on the market.

Candid Communication strives for transparency of message, allowing for a deeper look into the fashion industry, in a no-nonsense, straight talking format.

With each audio lasting approximately two minutes, the topics discussed include:

- Simply Madonna
- Primark: Ethical Issues Victim

- Organic Cotton
- Topshop: Kills Individuality

- Prada Protest
- Perceptions of Youth

- Ugg Boots
- Product Placement

Candid Communication has also been developed to offer a slightly less warped view of this ‘glamorous’ industry. Presenting a more real side of fashion and to perhaps remove some of the industry’s sheen.
- It is after all, a business: it’s not all champagne and catwalk shows.

Candid Communication’s jaded view on fashion is presented in a refreshingly honest and humorous way. She says it how she sees it and invites you to do the same. Exposure to many sides of the industry has lead her to this project… unveiling thoughts of the past years and offering her perspective on this much hyped industry.
- Wondering why the fashion industry always seems so appealing to those on the outside?

Whilst you may not always agree with her opinions, her perceptions of the issues discussed are very relevant, intriguing and definitely worth thinking about. They have been developed to bring some of the more obscure fashion issues to the forefront and spark a debate. So please have your say…

An exhibition displaying the work will run on Thursday 21st May from 5pm-7.30pm in room 119 at the University for the Creative Arts, Epsom.
